Hi All, Just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience.
I had two hip dislocations a few years after a hip replacement. Suspected cuase is abductor muscle atrophy or one set of muscles are not working the way the should be. Is it possible to gain back abductor muscles? hard question to answer but just feel so helpless, afraid of dislocating again.
I had my right hip replaced a fews years ago and noticed a loss in strength in my abductors, adductors and hamstring which I think was mainly due to the 3 month recovery period after the op combined with CMT muscle wastage.
I found that I could build the muscle back gradually by focusing on exercises for these muscles. For the adductors and abductors I use the adductors/abductor machine at the gym to help with this. My routine is that I start off light, do about 20 reps to make sure my muscle can handle the weight and then slowly build up the weight until either any more weight is uncomfortable, or its a good weight (e.g. can't do more than 10 reps).
But it is worth bearing in mind that legs are pretty tricky to narrow issues down to one muscle. You might find that its a number of muscles that are weak and this is what causes the problem. Also I do take performance enhancers so this guarantees that my muscle will develop at a pretty rapid rate.
